“You touch her and I’ll kill everyone you know.” – Clint Gray

Synopsis:
Clint Gray (Dolph Lundgren) is an exotic animal dealer and when the police catch up to him he accidentally lets a shark lose in the local lake.  While Clint is in prison, his daughter is cared for by Officer Meredith Hernandez, the same officer responsible for his arrest.  The shark begins attacking people of this quiet town and, upon his release, Clint looks to catch the monster AND reconnect with his daughter.

It seems pretty obvious that the sales pitch for Shark Lake was Dolph Lundgren vs. a shark.  I’m down for that.  Unfortunately we don’t get the payoff of that sale until the last 15 minutes of the movie.  The rest of the time is just an absolute slog…

Dolph Lundgren Shark Lake

The acting in Shark Lake is some of the worst acting I have ever seen.  I’ve watched some real crap too.  It’s just really not good.

The CGI is also right up there with some of the worst I’ve seen from this generation of movies.  Asylum movies have better CGI.  To make it worse, Shark Lake doesn’t use the CGI sparingly.  Cgi is used for sharks, divers, blood, smoke, fog…  You name it, they’ve got some crap cgi for it.  They even used cgi for the shark’s fin moving through the water.  A remote control submarine could have pulled off this effect perfectly.

Worst of all, I’m unsure what Shark Lake is supposed to be.  It’s not scary, not actiony, not sweet or romantic or dramatic. It’s not even really entertaining.  Dolph Lundgren vs. a freaking shark should have been a whole boat load (pun intended) of silly, stupid fun.  This isn’t.

I will probably end up buying Sark Lake on dvd or Blu-ray at some point, just to avoid a hole in my Dolph Lundgren collection.  It’ll probably stay in the shrink wrap though.  I have zero interest in watching this again.  I am quite possibly the biggest Dolph Lundgren fan alive but even my love for him couldn’t carry me to any sort of enjoyment with this movie.
