I’m not really the biggest fan of war movies but you throw Dolph Lundgren, Luke Goss, Mickey Rourke and UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell and I’m all in.

To my knowledge none of the people or events of the movie are based on anything that actually happened in WWII.  The movie plays out like you’d probably expect.  It’s just a fun, silly, stupid war movie only very loosely based on actual events.

I am a massive Dolph Lundgren fan and I had fun watching him bring his brand of badassery and humor to this role but his on-again, off-again French accent for this character was horrid.  There was literally no reason to even make the character French.  It didn’t matter for the plot at all.  Just make him American like every other movie he is in.  Problem solved… the Swedish dude who now lives in California doesn’t need to be attempting a French accent.

Luke Goss is effectively the main protagonist.  He doesn’t do a bad job by any means but it was the type of part that pretty much anybody could have pulled off.

Both Chuck Liddell and Mickey Rourke have incredibly short screen time, maybe only 5 minutes each.  It’s likely that they showed up for a day or two (at the most), cashed a pay check and went home.  That’s not necessarily a problem since that is essentially what the script calls for but a person expects more when Liddell and Rourke are featured prominently on the DVD cover art.

The action is mostly fine but it is pretty lacking in any really great set piece type moments.  A few fire fights, a little close quarters combat and that’s pretty much it.  Nothing you will remember for very long after watching.

War Pigs is best viewed as filler for action movie completionists.  I wouldn’t have gone too far out of my way to buy it but I’m not ashamed to have it on my Dolph Lundgren shelf.
