Avengers Grimm is one of a string of films (term used loosely) released by Asylum using titles similar enough to major releases to potentially confuse a person into purchasing/renting/pay attention to their movie instead of the movie they were intending. The movies themselves rarely have any resemblance to the movie whose title they were parodying. Avengers Grimm was obviously hoping to cash in on the popularity of Marvel’s Avengers.
Super Heroes are everywhere. It all started in the comics but has since moved into toys, video games, online casino games and, of course, TV shows and movies. Marvel has been able to feature a plethora of their characters as a part of their cinematic universe, while DC has long focused solely on Superman and Batman. Films, video games and other forms of internet entertainment like online slots games were developed around these characters figures, and they are gaining popularity day by day.
Lord knows the world didn’t need a sequel to 2007’s In The Name Of The King but since Uwe Boll apparently still owned the movie rights he might as well churn out another half-hearted attempt at a medieval action flick.
The original Resident Evil movie was one of the first of the wave of modern video game movies. Milla Jovovich also kind of led a new wave of female action movies. But the series has been going on for quite a long time. At a certain point though the series began to feel stale. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, the sixth film of the franchise, is supposed to be the final film in the series and it was timed to release at essentially the same time as the new video game, Resident Evil 7.
The Grey is one of those movies that I had intended to see for quite some time. I had heard good things but there always seemed to be something else that I watched, some good, some very bad.
The movie starts with three friends telling their story (via YouTube videos) of being forced to move out of their homes because of a new highway being built through their neighborhood. It’s a surprisingly emotional few minutes. These are kids who essentially only have each other for friends and they’re worried about all being moved to different schools and never making new friends. I moved a few times growing up and I can remember feeling the EXACT same way. The movie kind of won me over right there.
In case you were confused, this is not a review for 2007 CGI Beowulf known for CGI Angelina Jolie boobs. This is the 1999 Christopher Lambert direct to video post apocalyptic sci-fi version. You’d be forgiven if you had never heard of it.
